Novak Djokovic battled by way of intense stress from Dominic Thiem to reassert his dominance on the Australian Open Sunday, claiming a document eighth title and in doing so retaking the world primary rating.
The indomitable Serb stretched his unbeaten streak this season to 13 by rallying from two units to 1 down and beating the brave fifth-seeded Austrian 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a close to four-hour ordeal.
It was his seventeenth Grand Slam title, transferring him inside two of Rafael Nadal and three of Roger Federer on the all-time checklist.
