Unknown gunmen stormed the hometown of former President, Goodluck Jonathan in Bayelsa State early Tuesday morning in a bid to steal a gunboat belonging to the army stationed on the creek.
The assailants who got here in about 5 engine boats stormed the safety publish in Otuoke, about 100 metres away from Dr Jonathan’s residence, however met resistance by troopers who engaged them in a firefight.
A press release by the Media Adviser to Dr Jonathan, Ikechukwu Eze, confirmed the assault which he mentioned occurred by 1:30 am.

He mentioned that the army overpowered the criminals, forcing them to retreat, however one soldier was killed within the battle whereas one other was injured.
Mr. Eze who intimated that Dr Jonathan was not on the town when the assault occurred, instantly returned and condemned the assault.
He mentioned the previous President has condoled with the household of the deceased soldier, the army and has urged the involved safety authorities to swing into motion and produce the culprits to guide.
