How Saddam Hussein tried to break into the film business

In 1980 the Iraqi strongman, Saddam Hussein, tried to launch his nation into the world of film making.

He spent hundreds of thousands of {dollars} on an epic film known as “Clash of Loyalties”, filmed virtually fully on location in Iraq, and starring a few of Britain’s main actors, together with Oliver Reed.

But quickly after capturing of the film started, warfare erupted between Iraq and neighbouring Iran.

The film’s Iraqi-born British producer Lateif Jorephani recollects what occurred subsequent.
